Biografie

Edith van den Heuvel (born 24th April 1970 in Alkemade, the Netherlands) has been living in Luxembourg since 1994. She started singing at the age of 9 and has been actively singing on stage ever since. As a student in Utrecht she sang for 5 years in the vocal group Dekoor Close Harmony and had singing lessons from jazz-singer Denise Jannah. In Utrecht she was also part of the Sju Jazz Leerorkest.

After moving to Luxembourg she started to get in contact with the jazz-scene in Trier where she sang for a couple of years in the Rhythm & Swing Big Band and in the band from Nils Thoma called Nils Wills.

Since 2006 Edith is forming a Jazz duo with guitar player Dany Schwickerath from Trier and in 2009 they released their first CD Hidden Waltz in cooperation with the label Portabile Music.

In 2006 Georg Ruby (pianist, composer, conductor) asked Edith to join his big band, the Blue Art Orchestra from Cologne. In 2010 they recorded the CD Sketches Of A Working Band (JazzhausMusik Köln) on which Edith also performed a solo-improvisation. In June 2012 they participated in the International Big Band Concours in the Netherlands.

In 2006 and 2007 Edith also performed several times with her own quintet (with Donald Regnier on guitar, Boris Schmidt on double-bass and Yves Peeters on drums). They played e.g. at the L’Inouï and they played the last concert for the Jazzclub Luxembourg in the Melusina in June 2007.

In 2010 Edith started working with Italian drummer and composer Andrea Marcelli. They performed two concerts in the B-flat Jazzclub and Kunstfabrik Schlot in Berlin in the summer of 2010 and one concert at the L’Inouï in November 2010. Another concert followed in August 2011 in the Kunstfabrik Schlot.

In 2011 Edith performed a special Joni Mitchell Tribute with the Ben Heit Quartet (with Ben Heit on piano, Christian Mariotto on drums, Damien Prud’homme on saxophone and Jean-Luc Deat on double-bass) at the Brunnenhof Jazzfestival in Trier.

At the moment Edith is working together with piano player Frank Harrison from London and they’re planning to release a duo album this year.

Edith has played in concerts with: Georg Ruby, Blue Art Orchestra, Donald Regnier, Boris Schmidt, Yves Peeters, Jean-Yves Jung, Jean-Marc Robin, Davide Petrocca, Dany Schwickerath, Pascal Schumacher, Daisy Becker, Nils Thoma, Ben Heit, Christian Mariotto, Jean-Luc Deat, Andreas Schmidt, Andrea Marcelli, Robin Draganic, Marque Lowenthal, Ekkehard Wölk, Lorenzo Conte and Lito Tabora.
